What is Stress Relief Coaching?
Stress is inevitable—and that is not going to change. But the truth is stress doesn’t just ‘happen’. Stress is a key determinant in health, well being, quality of life and successful aging. Knowing that stress is a ‘process’ is the critical concept and foundation for a comprehensive prescription for stress relief. My coaching helps people learn how to develop healthy responses to the stressors in life.
The stress process is influenced by a cause and effect relationship between triggers or stressors:

When we consciously or unconsciously appraise one of these causes as exceeding the capacity of our resources, we unconsciously and automatically label it as a stressor. Those triggers arouse of the mind and body leading to one or more of the four typical responses.
Biological: Heart beating fast, sweaty palms, muscle tension
Emotional: Joy, happiness, irritation
Psychological: Anxiety, fear, moodiness or depression
Behavioral: Running, fighting, eating problems
Living a life with less stress requires congruence, clarity and purpose. With coaching individuals learn to blunt or abort harmful biologic responses and practice emotionally healthy behavior until it becomes natural.
Often the problem is that clients don’t know how to respond any differently to triggers which ‘push’ our buttons. We unconsciously respond to the stress by doing what we have been doing‐‐‐and of course these patterned responses don’t help… they often make things worse.
